In another of those contentious situations that arise when country and city meet, a farmer in south west France has been sued by a city-based neighbor whose vacation sleep is at risk from the farmer's rooster's morning serenade.
But this one may end more quickly than some others have, since the passage last year of a law protecting the "sensory heritage" in the wake of other such conflicts, including one over babbling geese and ducks. It also applies to such things as cow bells, cow droppings and grasshopper chirps.
In this case, the complaint headed to court after three years of complaints; the rooster's owner says “It all started in 2019. The owner of the house next door – who comes only twice a year on vacation – (he) came to see me and demand that I get rid of my rooster. That's out of the question.”
