French MP: 'Let me pee in peace'

The intrusion of illuminated advertising signs into nearly every sphere of life has gone just too far, according to one member of France's National Assembly, who has introduced a bill intended to allow all to go in peace.

That is, his bill would ban illuminated advertising signs placed over urinals in public restrooms. Legislator François Ruffin, a former journalist, says the idea came to him when a sign disturbed him using one of the 1,200 urinals that already have the signes. "I thought: even here, advertisers are invading our available brain time! Like Putin! They come to hunt us down to the toilet."

Aside from annoying toilet users, he says, they are environmentally bad because of unnecessary electricity use, emissions from the manufacturing process and more. Although he has several co-sponsors for the bill, it is apparently not on the government's agenda.
