Free parking returns to Las Vegas

As Las Vegas hotels prepare to gradually reopen, one trend is picking up a bit of steam: the return of free parking at casino hotels on the strip. Once an expected perk for visitors, in recent years it's become one more annoying charge for Sin City visitors.

MGM Resorts, with a dozen casino hotels on the strip and around the city, announced last week that when its hotel re-open free self-parking will be back. With very little street parking in most hotel areas, the big parking decks were an important free amenity, back in the days when Vegas hotel rooms and buffets were cheap because the hotels made their money in the casino. They still do, but in recent years the cheap rooms have become almost an illusion with the imposition of resort fees, parking fees and more.

No actual opening date for the hotels has been set; MGM will first open one of its mid-price offerings, New York-New York, along with high-end Bellagio

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
