For the 1%: A flying resort

If you've lusted for those first-class pods and suites at the front of the plane, take a look at the plane that will make those first-class folks green with envy themselves: An A330 that's almost a vacation in itself.

Explorer is a concept plane, remodeled from a stock A330 by Lufthansa Technik, an engineering subsidiary of the airline. On board, a nightclub, a glass floor, gym equipment, a garage and four double bedrooms. And, oh yes, there's a veranda, but as you can see above, that's only for when you've landed.

The plane comes with a nightclub setting.

The nightclub has a projection system that covers the walls and ceilings and can play all sorts of backgrounds: underwater, outer space, or almost anywhere other than an airplane. As shown at the Dubai Airshow, it's set up for 12, but those willing to share nicely can have it reconfigured for 47 people.

Wieland Timm, Head of Sales VIP & Special Mission Aircraft Services for the company compared the design to a 'superyacht,' and said that "In yacht building, multifunctional exploration vessels have now become a class in their own right. And many owners of such vessels also call an aircraft their own. For this fast-growing target group of VIP world explorers, we have therefore now created a flying platform for the first time."

And now you know why no one seems to have the time to work on more comfortable seats in our part of the plane...

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
