#1: Walk the Ancient City Walls

As you approach this town, whether by plane or by sea, you’ll first see the city walls that were built and rebuilt between the 13th and 15th century. They are nearly 20 ft thick at some points and enclose the entire town, with strategically placed towers. Ask anyone who’s been here and they’ll confidently tell you a walk around these ancient city walls is a must!

The walls provide excellent spots for sightseeing.  It's hard to get enough of the magnificent view of the sea and the red roofs.  The walls stretch 2 – 3 kms and are surprisingly in excellent condition. To circle the whole perimeter, it might take you around an hour or two depending on your speed and how often you stop to enjoy the panoramic views.

A word of advice, though -- take your time and relish the experience. Moreover, there are lots of places you can stop for ice cream or water, so wander and don’t worry too much about the weather.  While it may be a tiresome climb to the top, the experience will truly be worth it.

#2: Head to the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

The Dubrovnik Cathedral is located next to Rector’s Palace and welcomes visitors on a daily basis except on Sunday Morning. This is the third church constructed on the site, with the final incarnation rebuilt in a Baroque fashion built after an earthquake wrecked the structure in 1667.

According to legend, the original cathedral was supposedly funded by King Richard I, the Lionheart, of England. This cathedral is highly acclaimed and recognized for the exceptional architecture of the altars, and the building alone is an outstanding piece of art.  Furthermore, you’ll find the most stunning religious painting - the polyptych of the Assumption of Mary – made by Titian, the 19th-century Italian painter.  Don’t forget to explore the treasury. Although you’ll part with a little cash, this will undoubtedly be worth your visit.

#3: Take a Cable Car to the Top of Mount Srd

The Cable car will whisk you from north of the city walls to Mount Srd – about 450m above sea level - in less than four minutes and is another absolute must for a complete visit to this beautiful city. You’ll have the best view of Dubrovnik and surrounding areas, with a chance to snap the best pictures of the old town.

Make your time even more memorable and watch the sunset from here. The Panorama restaurant within the cable car station offers you the same picturesque view along with some excellent local wines, cocktails, and seafood platters.

#4: Visit the Old Town

You’ll fall in love with the old town, and by the end of your visit you’d still want to stay inside the stone city walls. This is where you’ll find the city’s historic sites including the Rector’s Palace and the Franciscan Monastery

Contrastingly, there are new attraction sites like War Photo Limited so you would have lots of things to do here. You’ll equally have fun shopping within the area or relaxing at cool small cafes with Dubrovnik’s delicacies.

#5: Sailing to the Island Lokrum

The forested Lokrum Island is the perfect place to go and enjoy a time under the sun, especially when you feel the crowd in Dubrovnik just too much. Aside from sunbathing and swimming, there are great sights you can marvel at while wandering through the vegetation.

Many tourists prefer taking a boat from a local charter and sail to the Island Lokrum which is nearly half a mile offshore and close to Dubrovnik. The ride will only take you 15 minutes so be sure to save your spot on the boat.
