Fishing for wild boar in Italian waters

Yes, that's what the headline says, and what it meant. A group of Italian fishermen were startled to find a wild boar swimming alongside, 6 km off the coast of Puglia in southern Italy.

After filming the video above (who would believe them without it!), they managed to haul the pig into the boat and get it back to shore, not an easy venture. Surprisingly, many believe that pigs and wild boars can't swim because the swimming motion would cause their sharp hoofs to cut their necks.

One of the fishermen told a local newspaper “We tried to bring it back to the shore – and we eventually managed it – but the boar was very afraid and kept attacking our boat. Once we got it to dry land it ran off into the pine forest – it was amazing."

Getting close to a wild boar is usually no picnic; their numbers have been increasing and their is human population pressure on their habitat. In recent years, incidents with boars have increased, and a number of people have been killed.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
