After the long round of holidays from Thanksgiving to Chanukah to Christmas and New Years with a few others in between, many Americans are ready for a 'nothing-cation,' where they go away and do as close to nothing as possible.
According to research from Expedia, bookings for post-Christmas holidays and into the spring are dominated not by exploring new places but rather by a search for warm weather and relaxation. Expedia's survey of 4,000 travelers in December found 34% were feeling burned out and 96% planned to spend at least a good portion of their next trip doing absolutely nothing.
In many cases, that means heading for Caribbean or other beaches, and seeking out low-planning-stress options like packages from an agency like Expedia or an all-inclusive resort or cruise. Beaches account for over a quarter of early-in-the-year bookings.
