One terrific way to learn about a city is to go to a game. Everbank Field, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars, teaches you quite a bit about the city.
One thing that always gets visitors asking questions is the rallying war call of the Jags, 'DUUUVALLLL'. The chant was started by a local DJ, Easy E, who heard people in the streets chanting the county's name, Duval. He extended it and dropped it on air, in shows and on mix tapes. The chant was taken to the stands of Everbank. You not only hear the chant at games but you hear it anywhere people want to show pride in the city.
You can tell by half-time shows, flyovers and the honoring of military veterans throughout the game, that Jacksonville is a military town. Jacksonville is home to multiple military facilities. Together with with the nearby Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, it makes for the third largest military presence in the country.
