Europe's 'visa waiver' system postponed again

Europe has again postponed the start of its new system for tracking travel by visitors who are not required to have visas for travel in the Schengen zone, which eliminates borders among its 22 member states. The new start date will be at the end of 2022.

Like the U.S. visa waiver program that allows visitors from certain countries without a visa, the new European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) requires travelers to register online and receive an electronic authorization to enter the Schengen area after their information is checked against security databases.

Originally approved by the EU Parliament in 2016, the start of the system was postponed to January 1, 2021 to allow systems to be set up and tested. Last May, the date was pushed forward a year because of the current pandemic. That has now been extended from the start of 2022 to the end of the year.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
