New York's Empire State Building, one of the oldest commercial skyscraper observatories, is getting with the times with some new features, including heat and Santa Claus.
Calling itself the Empire State Building Observatory Experience, the tower's two viewing levels now have a dedicated building entrance on the ground floor of the 102-story Art Deco icon, an immersive museum with digital and tactile exhibits and renovations on the 102nd story observatory. The 86th story observatory new has heat lamps installed for winter visitors.
And, now through December 30, the lobby will feature piano favorites including holiday tunes, and a visit from Santa Claus. And, for those who want a place to eat or hang out afterwards, there's a new Starbucks Reserve in the building, a three-story space that is the only Starbucks with a full dinner menu.
