Dutch rustlers steal steel animals

Livestock rustlers in the Netherlands have recently hauled off three steel horses and a herd of bronze goats from roadsides in two towns.

The three horses, each about eleven feet high, disappeared from their pasture along the N206 in Valkenburg last week. The horses represent the town's historic horse fair. Authorities told local news that ‘How they managed it I don’t know, but we want to know where they are and we want them back.’

Meanwhile, in Bergen op Zoom, seven bronze goats, part of a herd of twelve along the town's main boulevard, were taken. Five were later offered for sale online. The Dutch government's cultural heritage department says that thefts of public artwork are on the rise, especially with current high prices for metals, including especially bronze.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
