Don't look down! China closes glass bridges

The stupendous and daring glass bridge tourism attractions that China has recently built thousands of have proven popular, and for too many, dangerous. One province, Hebei, has now decided to close down 32 of its glass bridges for safety.

Included in the Hebei order is one, the East Taihang Glasswalk, that is even designed to seem unsafe: It has a special-effect glass floor that appears to shatter when it is stood on. While it doesn't, there have been other incidents with broken glass and flying debris, as well as falls from the bridges.

China's central government has now called on authorities throughout the country to check the safety of all glass structures, including over 2,300 glass bridges and an unknown number of glass walkways and slides.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
