It's been 30 years since I last visited Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California. A lot stayed the same, and a lot changed.
I particularly enjoyed Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
Located on the edge of the galaxy, between the Unknown Regions and Wild Space, there is a long-forgotten planet named Batuu. Batuu's largest village is a settlement known as Black Spire Outpost. It has become a thriving destination for those who would prefer to go about their business unnoticed including smugglers, and, recently, sightings of individuals associated with the Resistance.
The modern village is built on crumbling structures created by a long-extinct civilization.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is a massive attraction with multiple ride systems. The storyline is the Resistance needs your help. Hidden in the forest outside Black Spire Outpost, the Resistance gathers recruits for a secret mission.
With the First Order desperate to extinguish the spark of the Resistance, the mission has unexpected twists and turns. When your transport is captured by an imposing First Order Star Destroyer filled with legions of stormtroopers—including Kylo Ren—you're going to need all the help you can get.
Fortunately, a covert team of Resistance fighters—including Rey and BB-8—is at the ready to give you a fighting chance to escape.
The second ride is Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run taking guests on a daring flight. Each rider takes on the duties of a pilot, engineer, or gunner as you answer the call from local "businessman" Hondo Ohnaka to deliver hard-to-find items to a particular clientele aboard a ship in his employ, the famous Millennium Falcon.
My granddaughter and I were gunners, and my son was one of the pilots. You control the action making the ride fast, furious, and fun!
The engines rumble as you blast off, pushing you back into your seats when you jump into hyperspace towards adventure. Along the way, we faced "danger" at every turn.
Make sure and drop by the local cantina to sample the indigenous beverages and curious concoctions, including blue milk and green milk. Luke Skywalker enjoyed blue milk in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, and green milk in Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.
In my opinion, blue is best. I tried both.
There are great shops with many Star Wars items, including Savi's Workshop, where you can create Handbuilt Lightsabers. Reservations required.
I was impressed with the immersion of this Disneyland "land."
The rides are popular. Lightning Lane timed entry is an additional fee, although you can wait in the Standby Line—sometimes for hours.
Before you visit Disneyland Park, make sure and educate yourself on the new Genie, Genie+, and Lightning Lane options.
Congratulations to George G, who after extensive searching realized the towers in this week's One-Clue Mystery were in a very different past than our own!
