Disney gets ready for Star Wars crowds

Star Wars lands are opening soon at Disney's two U.S. parks, and the company is planning special measures to keep the galaxy from being overrun by creatures from the world of fans.

Disney is known for attention to crowd management at its parks, using interactive holding lines, and various reservation and 'fast pass' tools, but the May 31 opening of the California site will have them on steroids.

Admission to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will be only by reservation for the first three weeks, and after that will require a 'boarding pass' linked to a messaging app. Pass holders will receive messages telling them when it's time to line up.

Reservations for the opening period will be available first to visitors staying at hotels on the Disney site, but some will be available to others. No exact plan has been announced for the Florida site, which will not open until August 29. The California experience will help shape procedures there.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
