Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain, London

One of my favorite spots in London, especially to go for a walk, is Hyde Park.  It's a large park and during my last visit I came across this interesting and unique memorial to Diana, Princess of Wales.  It had been opened by The Queen in 2004, but I'd not seen it before.

The fountain was built into a hill in the park and is constructed of 545 pieces of Cornish granite arranged in a circular pattern.  About 100 liters of water/second runs through it.  The design was intended to reflect that water flows form a high point, goes turbulently in more than one direction before settling into a calm pool at the base of the memorial.  It is said to be symbolic of Diana's life.

The memorial is popular having attracted millions of visitors over the years.  There are pedestrian bridges that cross the water and several walking paths around the memorial.  Lots of people sat on the granite and enjoyed the flowing water.

Very near to the fountain is this interesting work of art entitled "Ibis", by Simon Gudgeon.
