DFW aims to be 'touchless' airport

With air traffic way down and Dallas Fort Worth temporarily the world's busiest airport Dallas Fort Worth Airport is making itself a testing ground for what could eventually be a touchless experience for travelers, even after Covid restrictions are over.

American Airlines, the biggest tenant at the airport, has been working with airport authorities on many of the experiments, which include testing three different kinds of self-service touchless luggage check-in, biometric boarding kiosks, UV technology to sanitize air circulation and contactless temperature checks.

Even the restrooms are going touchless with no-contact sinks, soap and towel dispensers, hands-free flushing and sensors to alert staff when supplies are low or cleanup is needed. Not quite touchless of course; passengers will still not be able to levitate above toilets.

DFW's temporary status, largely the result of American concentrating its international flights there for the time being, gives the airport enough business to really test the systems, but not enough to cause delays for travelers.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
