Denmark making sure there's room at the inn

Denmark has been seeing increasing tourism numbers, and also increasing business conferences, and it's spurring a boom in new hotel construction, as well as upgrades of existing hostelries.

Another factor spurring the growth is increased activity at Copenhagen's airport by discount carriers, meaning even more visitors.

The newspaper Jyllands-Posten Finans reported last Friday that there are now at least 6000 new rooms in the pipeline, to be ready by 2020, and that may increase. Seven new hotels will open in Copenhagen in 2017.

One unusual addition will be the former Central Post Office building (above) in Copenhagen, facing the Central Rail Station and Tivoli Gardens. The Norwegian company Nordic Choice Hotels is turning it into a 380-room luxury hotel.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
