Denmark first in Europe to drop Covid rules

As of last Friday, Denmark dropped the last of its Covid restrictions, a requirement to show vaccine passports at nightclubs. Now the country and the world are holding their breath to see what happens next.

Although there are now no internal restrictions, all rules for visitors entering the country remain in place. Who is allowed depends on the visitor's vaccine status and what country they are coming from. Denmark says that 73% of its adult population is fully-vaccinated, and 96% of those over 65.

The restrictions have been dropped in steps over the past six weeks. The laws that support the restrictions remain in place, and if necessary can be restarted. Iceland attempted the same decision in June, but was forced to reinstate rules when cases started rising again, especially the delta variant.
