Delta expands its Seattle empire again

Delta, which has battled Alaska Airlines over the past few years for market share at Alaska's home hub in Seattle, is opening another front in the battle, adding Chicago to its non-stop destinations from the Pacific Northwest.

The new flights, three round-trips a day to O'Hare using A319s, mean that Delta will now serve all 10 of the top U.S. markets from Seattle. But they also mean that Delta is faced with some pretty hefty competition from big rivals. United has 6 flights a day on the route, American has 3, and Alaska, formerly a close ally of Delta, has 4. Southwest also serves the route from Chicago Midway.

Since  2012, Delta has “more than tripled flights and destinations” in Seattle. It now offers 163 peak-day flights to more than 40 destinations.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
