Delta a step closer to WiFi promise

Delta Airlines, which promised in 2019 to eventually have free WiFi for all on its planes, took another big step in that direction, making the service free for all members of its SkyMiles loyalty program, which is free to join, including on the spot.

In a previous step, weeks ago, Delta offered free connection to its Medallion elite members. Like the current expansion, it was labeled as a trial as Delta monitors how its systems hold up with more and more passengers added. For those not included, there's a flat $5 per flight charge.

Remaining steps to meet Delta's pledge include expanding it to the entire fleet and to international flights. Presently, it's available on planes equipped with Viasat satellite service, which will be installed by the end of the year on the vast majority of Delta's mainline fleet. At present, it's on most A321s, 737-900s and 757-200s. International expansion is likely to take a little longer, possibly 2024.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
