Dallas, Texas got an unusual new landmark last week, and although it's slated to be town down soon, petitions are circulating asking the city to spare the life of The Leaning Tower of Dallas, an unintended consequence of a failed attempt to tear the building down with a controlled implosion.
The 11-story former office building was being removed to make way for $2.5 billion of new construction, but miscalculations left part of it standing, and at an angle that immediately led to people flocking to the site for Pisa-like selfies of themselves 'holding the building up.'
While the company says that more conventional means, including a wrecking ball will soon be used to clear the site, thousands of locals have signed online petitions asking the city to save it and calling for it to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage.
A fan named Justin Mitchell is behind the petition, saying "After making national headlines, we are finally famous for something other than the JFK Assassination...You wouldn't tear down the Leaning Tower of Pisa or the Great Pyramids of Giza and replace them with condos, would you?"
Meanwhile, at the Dallas Fort Worth Lego Discovery Center, craftsmen rushed to complete a Lego-block model out of 1500 bricks. The model even includes miniature people ogling the building and taking pictures with little Lego iPhones.
