At the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York, there's a plethora of art glass, industrial glass, household glass, technical glass... glass of practically any sort you can imagine, from ancient times to yesterday, all attractively on display.
But there's also a place at the museum for do-it-yourselfers. No, no glass-blowing (sadly) and no large-scale projects, but an attractive assortment of small projects to make and take, with help from studio staff.
Some of the projects involve creating patterns on glass by sandblasting, but my daughter and I chose a frame for a mirror (me) and a set of wind chimes. These projects allowed us to play with various colors and shapes of glass, and to cut bits and pieces to our taste.
After we were finished lightly gluing all the bits, we left and the projects stayed for an overnight visit to the kiln to be fused at high heat and picked up the next day.
