Clean cruises: 29 ships got perfect CDC scores

The Centers for Disease Control, which is responsible for health inspections of cruise ships, found 29 this year with perfect scores of 100 points. Minimum passing score is 86.

Celebrity had the most perfect scores (6), followed by Holland America (5, including Eurodam for the 10th year in a row), Royal Caribbean (4), Carnival (3) and Princess (3). Norwegian and Disney each had two perfects. Keep in mind, some of the lines have more ships than others. Disney has 4; Norwegian 15.

CDC inspects all passenger ships calling at U.S. ports. Ships that score below 86 on the unannounced inspections are re-inspected within 30 to 45 days, although if the first inspection finds imminent danger, the ship could be barred from ports. The change can be significant: Empress of the Seas got a wake-up call with an 80 in June, but scored 97 a month later.
