Everything about China and its tourism business seems big, so it should be no surprise that the country passed another milestone last year, becoming the country with the most outbound tourists in the world.
A report from the China Tourism Academy and only travel agency Ctrip says Chinese travelers made over 150 million overseas trips in 2018, up 14.7% over the previous year. The travelers are estimated to have spent about $120 billion in their travels.
Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Singapore, the U.S., Russia, Australia, Italy, the UK, France, Germany and Spain were among the top 20 most visited countries among Chinese travelers, the report indicated, with a number of other countries gaining significantly, including Myanmar, Serbia, Laos, Argentina and Cambodia.
