Carnival signs on for soap recycling

Yes, it's a thing, and Carnival is not alone in sponsoring Clean the World Foundation's campaign to turn those messy little scraps of 'hospitality soa.p' we leave behind in hotel bathrooms and on cruise ships. Hilton, for instance, also participates.

In Carnival's case, the slivers are now being collected by cabin cleaners for processing, which includes sanitizing, melting and reforming into new cakes of soap to be distributed in high-need areas of the world. Last year, Clean the World distributed about 400,000 cakes of soap; adding Carnival's 40 tons of scraps should bump that figure up a good bit.

That 40 tons, by the way, is the leftover of Carnival's more than three million cakes a year used on its ships. The recycling program has already been tested on several ships, and will go fleetwide by the end of this month

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
