Parks Canada is off on a ten-year tree spree, with plans to plant two billion new trees in parks across Canada, part of a national commitment to action on climate change and to protect biodiversity.
This summer's down payment on the plan includes 150,000 trees going in to 18 national parks across the country, including 2,500 in Fundy National Park, which was the scene of the program's announcement, seen above.
According to a statement by the Ministers of Natural Resources and Environment and Climate Change, the project will lead to a 12 megatonne annual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and will also create up to 4,500 jobs.
