Canada's NWT out to get attention

Canada's vast Northwest Territories, more than five times the size of Alaska (and therefore over ten times the size of Texas) isn't feeling the tourist love its smaller cohorts get, and it's out to change that by offering a VR experience and a lift to commuters in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary.

NWT Tourism is putting a car wrapped in NWT branding, out on the street in the three cities, offering lucky riders a cab-like lift to anywhere within 10km of the hotel the car is based at. During the ride, or just at the hotel curb, the luck riders will have 360° virtual reality headsets offering the dance of the Northern Lights, a ride among a migrating reindeer herd or a paddle on a glassy alpine like under a midnight sun.

And, the riders will be entered into a contest to win a trip for two to the Northwest Territories. The car will be in Toronto 2/3 to 2/9, at the Hilton Toronto; 2/16 to 2/23 at the Hampton Inn, Vancouver and 2/23 to 3/31 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Calgary.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
