Bookings up for U.S. domestic cruises

A combination of waning Covid rates and rising world uncertainty are proving a boon to the U.S. domestic cruise industry, which is seeing surging bookings for its small ships that ply domestic rivers and coastlines.

American Queen Voyages, whose ships operate U.S.-only river sailings in addition to mostly-U.S. Great Lakes and coastal trips reported that February 25 new booking numbers broke its one-day record by 10%. It also says it's receiving a lot more travel agent inquiries.

A similar uptick has been going on at American Cruise Lines, whose trips are all-U.S. including Alaska. Its president, Charles Robertson, told The Points Guy that "American Cruise Lines has specialized in domestic cruising for over 30 years and we have repeatedly seen interest remain strong through periods of global uncertainty."

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
