Blackpool gets some respect—and a museum

Blackpool, one of Britain's most famous and historic working-class resorts appears set to finally get a museum celebrating its colorful history and hopefully drawing new visitors.

After several attempts that failed for funding issues, a £4 million lottery grant has given the town the means to go ahead with the latest version of the project, which will be part of a major entertainment tower replacing the old Sands venue. Dubbed 'Show Town: The Museum of Fun and Entertainment,' it will be near Blackpool's iconic tower.

Promoters say it's aimed at local pride and understanding rather than trying to drum a new class of visitors. A recent number of new hotels and attractions has led some to fear the town is trying to go upmarket and leave its traditional clientele behind.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
