According to Belgian officials, if Ryanair owes you a refund or compensation, well... it's complicated. And they want that to stop.
Eva De Bleeker, Belgian Secretary of State for Consumer Protection has tasked the Belgian Economic Inspectorate to go after Ireland-based Ryanair through Irish authorities. Her Monday announcement charged that the airline is illegally and actively stopping travelers getting proper compensation by making the process hard to follow and difficult to complete the forms.
The issue has come to the fore lately because of an April strike that cancelled many flights from Ryanair's two Belgian bases in Brussels and Charleroi. Passengers whose flights were canceled are entitled to alternate flights or a refund.
