Belgian asparagus turn up legal

If you're wondering why an asparagus gratin turned up at the top of a travel news blog, you're probably less surprised than Belgian lawyers who found the recipe in the midst of legal decisions in the country's official law journal.

The journal, Moniteur Belge, is where court decisions, legislative action and official guidance are published, providing a national reference. It's published in Flemish and French, and the error made it only into the online version of the Francophone version, setting off a flurry of wry comments.

The lawyer Morgan Moller, who first spotted it, right after a paragraph on economic law, commented on Twitter that “I have had it with people who say that the Moniteur Belge is useless. You can find everything in there: laws, determinations, recipes, you name it.”

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
