August 21, 2020: Reflections of the Amazon

My wife and I spent a week on a remote tributary of the Peruvian Amazon basin around 25 years ago.  We stayed on a floating house-boat, about a 6 hour boat-ride from the Amazon River.  You need to travel that far from the main channel of the Amazon to see some virgin rainforest.  The story of our trip will be the subject of a future blog, but today I wanted to share photos taken from the deck of our floating home.

The river (Rio Oroso) always was very calm, and the vegetation on its banks was thick.  The humidity approached 100%, and with the heat and lack of breeze it was one of the least pleasant climates I've ever visited.

Still, the rainforest was fascinating and beautiful, and the experience quite memorable.
