April 30, 2020: Canada's Team of the Century Monument, Toronto

As I've previously shared with you, Canadians love their ice hockey!

Hockey Hall of Fame (1)

One of the greatest moments in Canadian hockey history was in 1972, during the Cold War.  For the first time ever Canadian professional hockey players (Canada's best) were allowed to compete in an international tournament with the Soviet Union.  Both teams performed well and the hockey was good, and it was not clear which team would dominate.  Then, in Game 8, Paul Henderson (of the Toronto Maple Leafs) scored the winning goal!

The moment of that goal was memorialized by the Royal Canadian Mint in a special coin in 1997 for the 25th anniversary of the series, and in this monument erected in 2000 outside of the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
