The Park's considerable colony of red-eared sliders, by the way, are not Brooklyn natives; they are from the southern U.S. and northern Mexico, but are now almost everywhere, because people who have bought them as pets leave them in parks when they get too big.
In Prospect Park, they've been around long enough to have established nesting and breeding areas, and can sometimes be seen crossing the park roads en masse, headed to spawn.
