Amtrak running Northeast BOGO sale

In a rare move clearly designed to get ridership back 'on track,' Amtrak is offering a Buy One Get One Free sale on on its Northeast Corridor line that serves cities between Boston and Washington.

The sale ends Wednesday, September 30, but the fares are good for travel through December 12. Blackout days include Sundays and Fridays and the Thanksgiving weekend. Both Acela and Northeast Regional (NER) trains are included.

All fares require three days advance purchase, and are best for travelers over longer distances. As the price grid shows, for instance, a trip from Boston to Washington DC starts at $104, with the high-speed Acela priced only $25 higher, while buying separate Boston to NY and NY to DC tickets pushes the prices up to $138 and $228.

Amtrak is pushing its service as a safe way to travel during the pandemic with lots of open space and seating, cleaning and full mask requirements.
