Amtrak orders new fleet for East Coast

Amtrak, which recently started running its next generation of Acela (semi) high-speed trains in the Northeast Corridor has now turned its attention to upgrading its regular service with an order for 83 new trains to run in the Northeast Corridor and on routes heading down the coast to Florida.

The new trains, labeled Amtrak Airo, are to be built in California by Siemens, will come into service as they arrive between 2025 and 2031.

Aside from a change of color scheme from the traditional Amtrak stainless-steel to two shades of blue highlighted with red, the new trains will feature larger, more comfortable seats with additional amenities, including power and a cupholder for each seat and more seats with table options. The cars also feature large panoramic windows.

The cars come in coach and business-class options, with business class allotted more space, with seating in a 2-1 pattern, while coach is 2-2. The new trains will also have upgraded cafe cars, with more self-service options as well as redeveloped 'contemporary' menus.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
