Amsterdam opens up for superyachts

Amsterdam is opening more space for the dreamships of the super-rich, the huge super-yachts that are some of them as big as small cruise ships. The city hopes to lure them as a stimulus for yacht-building and yacht-repair.

The city has recently lost a number of port calls by cruise lines over its new tourism tax, with several lines choosing Rotterdam or other ports instead.

In addition to mooring space near the city's central rail station that can handle yachts up to 80m in length, it is working on a new wharf in the western part of the port that will be able to do repairs on ships up to 160 metres long. To help promote the city's yacht-friendliness, the city has gone out to boat shows.
