Amsterdam Eurostar link could be cut

Amsterdam's link to London via Eurostar, just over a year and a half old, is under threat of suspension caused by planned major renovation work at Amsterdam's Centraal station.

Netherlands junior infrastructure minister Vivianne Heijnen told Parliament that under present plans there will be no room for the dedicated 'Europe track' and facilities at the station once work begins in 2024, and called for stronger efforts to find a workaround.

The route, a major piece of planning for greener travel, has helped reduce flights between London and Amsterdam, once one of Europe's heaviest air corridors. It began initially in 2018 with direct service from London, with the return link, delayed by lack of customs facilities, added in Oct. 2020. Now running three times a day, it is scheduled to add a fourth train in September.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
