American adds new routes, LAX focus

 

American Airlines rolled out 21 new routes, most of them starting this week, with others beginning by the end of the month. Nearly half the routes originate at Los Angeles' LAX, marking a growing focus for AA.

As listed by The Airline Reporter, the new LAX routes are

  • June 2
    • Seattle (SEA), 5x Daily
    • Portland (PDX), 3x Daily
    • Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP), 2x Daily
    • Anchorage (ANC), Daily (seasonal)
    • Hartford (BDL), Daily
    • Kansas City (MCI), Daily
    • New Orleans (MSY), Daily
    • Omaha (OMA), Daily
  • June 4
    • Durango (DRO), Saturdays (seasonal)
  • June 23
    • Auckland, New Zealand (AKL), Daily


The Seattle, Portland and Anchorage routes overlap with routes of Alaska Airlines, an important AA codeshare partner, and will carry Alaska Airlines numbers as well.

The other new routes are from existing AA hubs to new destinations:

  • Charlotte (CLT) to San Jose (SJC)
  • Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to Boise (BOI), Bozeman (BZN), and Santa Barbara (SBA)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Sacramento (SMF)
  • New York LaGuardia (LGA) to Bangor (BGR), Louisville (SDF), Martha’s Vineyard (MVY), Myrtle Beach (MYR), and Nantucket (ACK)
  • Phoenix (PHX) to Redmond/Bend (RDM)
