All aboard! France's TGV gets new route, trains

France's TGV network continues to grow, and to update its rolling stock. SNCF officials showed off their latest trains last week, with a third of them destined to run on a new line that opens next year between Tours and Bordeaux.

The new line will cut travel time from Paris to Bordeaux, in southwest France, by nearly a third, from about 3-1/4 hours to just over 2.

The 40 new trains, dubbed "Océane," are capable of 200 mph, and seat 22% more passengers than current models. They feature Wi-Fi throughout, more storage space, accommodations for group travel, upgraded cafe cars, and for first-class passengers, individual USB charging points.

The first run of the new trains will be on December 11, on the Paris-Toulouse route, with all trains in service by 2019.
