Airbnb puts kibosh on all parties

Airbnb, in the spotlight both because it's once again moving toward becoming a public company and because of bad publicity from more incidents of violence or Covid violations at rental sites, is banning all rentals for events or parties, worldwide.

In addition to removing the 'event-friendly' and 'parties and events allowed' tags and filters from its search engine, it will now limit maximum occupancy to 16. At one recent event at a rental 700 people showed up; other large gatherings have involved shootings and fights.

Airbnb says it is considering ways to lift the cap of 16 for some venues, such as boutique hotels or b&bs that normally handle more. The privately-held company, valued in the billions, has tried several times over the past few years to find the right moment to sell itself to stockholders.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
