Air New Zealand, which has a high proportion of very long-haul flights, has just introduced its latest attempt at giving economy-class passengers a little better chance at some sleep by offering six bunk beds in some economy cabins.
Dubbed "Skynest," the new product has two sets of bunk beds, stacked three deep in a V shape, and will be available in 2024 on the airline's next batch of 787-9s. No announcement on price yet, nor on whether they'll be sold for the whole trip, or in blocks of time to give more passengers a chance.
Air New Zealand already has "Skycouch" available on some flights; in that configuration, a three-seat row turns into a bed.
