AA beefs up its network

American Airlines is adding 25 new routes, bringing its list of city pairs up to an impressive 365. Fifteen of the new routes are international, and some are to cities that have no other direct-from-USA flights now.

No other airline flies directly from North America to Dubrovnik or Bologna, but now American will. The flights, using 787s, will fly from American's Philadelphia hub, along with a new flight to Berlin.

Dallas gets two new Europe routes, one to Dublin, and one to Munich, as well as service to Durango, Mexico, Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The remaining international routes are Saturday-only routes to the Caribbean from various cities. Three new routes will include Canadian destinations.

In addition to the new international routes, AA is adding a bunch of domestic routes, most of them summer routes to vacation destinations, using smaller planes. The only one flown with a mainline aircraft will be from NYC LaGuardia to Jackson, Wyoming.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
