A touch of rail class: Afternoon tea

What started out as a publicity stunt to promote National Afternoon Tea Week by serving a traditional afternoon tea, complete with scones, finger sandwiches, cakes, fizz and, of course, tea.

The scene for the back-to-the-golden-days event was the East Coast Main Line service on the London North Eastern Railway, and the line's head of sales and distribution wrote on Twitter that it was "going down a treat."

He added that passengers should watch for more events coming soon as the LNER and other rail operators work at luring passengers back to the trains. “Our afternoon tea event onboard an LNER service also marked National Afternoon Tea Week and was a trial as part of focus to encourage customers back onto trains and explore our wonderful destinations.”

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
