Heathrow's expansion may have politics problem

Heathrow's plans for a long-awaited third runway and new terminals is moving ahead through the planning and permitting process, but there may be a roadblock growing out of the UK's selection of a new Prime Minister.

The front-runner for the job is former London Mayor Boris Johnson, who in 2015 pledged to his constituents that “I will lie down with you in front of those bulldozers and stop the building, stop the construction of that third runway.” Despite his opposition, the proposal passed Parliament by nearly 4 to 1, and court challenges were rejected. But if he becomes PM, all that could change.

Heathrow's plans could bring as many as 25,000 new flights a year to the field, which won out over London Gatwick as the site where a new runway was approved.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
