Shutdown grounds Paine Field flights

The government shutdown that is now into its second month has postponed the start of commercial flights from Seattle's Paine Field, which had been scheduled to start February 11.

Alaska Airlines, which had the most flights on its schedule, has pushed the date back to March 4, hoping that FAA certification officials will be back on the job by then. If not, the return of commercial flights to the field 25 miles north of downtown Seattle may be delayed further.

United, the other airline scheduling flights from Paine, which shares the Everett-based field with Boeing's delivery center, has not announced its rescheduling.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
