Loch Broom Log Church, Nova Scotia

The Loch Broom Log Church, is a replica of the original church and was built in 1973. Logs from the Scott Paper mill were used and hand stripped by volunteers. The church is still in excellent shape. By looking at it you'd think it was built within the last few years.

The original Loch Broom Church was built in 1787 from logs hauled to the site.  The shingles, doors and window frames were built by hand and cracks between the logs were filled with moss and mud to keep out the elements. The only materials that they bought in the construction of the church were glass and nails.

Church services lasted three to four hours because they were conducted in both English and Gaelic.  Adults sat on logs that were flattened and children sat in the galley above. The people sat to sing and stood to pray.
