Las Vegas: Marriage licenses at the airport

Las Vegas is setting up a marriage license office in the baggage claim area at the airport, open 9 to 5 from Feb. 9 to 17. The city is preparing for an expected wedding rush around the triple-threat period next month that includes Presidents' week, Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year, all popular times to tie the knot in Sin City.

The Clark County Clerk's office says it issues about 1,500 marriage licenses, double the usual, during that week every year, and expects more this year with the coincidence of the lunar New Year. It hopes the airport facility will lighten the lines. There's even an on-line pre-application form that can be filled out. Couples then only need to bring the reference number from the form and $77 cash or credit.

Once you've got the license, you still have to have a wedding, at one of Las Vegas's many chapels with many themes. So far, none of them has thought to have a pop-up branch at the airport. Think of it! You could get off the plane, collect your license, be married by an Elvis impersonator, and have your honeymoon at a casino...all without leaving baggage claim!

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
