I took this photo of the interior hallway in the Wessobrunn Abbey in Bavaria, a short drive from my US Army base in Augsburg. The abbey was founded in the year 753 AD and was destroyed and rebuilt a number of times. One of the earliest know poetic works in Old High German was housed here around 814 AD and named the Wessobrunn Prayer.
