What's the Difference Between the UK and GB?

If you didn't know the answer you are not alone. Travelodge surveyed 3,000 British adults to test their national geography knowledge and 36% of them didn't know the difference between the United Kingdom and Great Britain.

 

The answer is the United Kingdom comprises four countries, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Great Britain doesn't include Northern Ireland.

When I was in 7th or 8th grade, a British friend explained the difference to our class (Great Britain is an island, he said, and the United Kingdom is a nation). From the back of the room, someone wanted to know if Ireland were Little Britain.
